This is the story board of our final scene in the trailer.

Box 1. Miles walks through narrow hallway pursuing Jordan. Miles is blacked out, white mask. Low angle shot.

Box 2. Jordan trips while being chased by Miles. High angle shot

Box 3. Miles walks toward the camera, while alternating between costumes we synchronise this by turning the light on and off rapidly. Mid shot

Box 4. Over the shoulder shots, one from Miles' view and one from Jordan's

Box 6. Camera zooms in to Miles masked face. Close up shows Miles suddenly waking up after supposedly be dead

What is the point of a trailer and genre?

The whole point of releasing trailers is to promote the film. Without trailers there could be no way that the audience would know what the film is about, therefore there cannot be an established target audience without a trailer. Furthermore, trailers are what allow the target audience to know that this film is for them by being teased with footage from the film; drawing them in and leave the audience wondering what happens next.

The whole point of a genre is to sell the film to a specific target audience. The way genres can be broken down is through its codes and conventions. Once those conventions are known, we know what kind of film it is.

If theres murder, blood, evil or monsters then it will be a horror film. Action films usually have explosions, gun fights, car chases and men as main characters to attract their audience.

Comedy's reach to their audience by evoking laughter through gags ans sketches, usually has happy atmospheres and a coherent narrative, meaning there is a link between the events occurred in the narrative.

What our trailer will include

After we came up with the plot of our trailer it was then time to figure out what shots we were definintly going to use, the sound we wanted to use, who the characters were and who would play them, the setting and the editing & effects we would use after we had shot our trailer.

Where sound is concerned we wanted to challenge the normal sound tracks you find in a horror film. The sounds you usually will hear in horror is screaming, noises that are made by weapons such as knifes, guns etc. The music tends to be quiet, high pitched notes continueusly being played; this music is quite disturbing as it doesnt sound natural and prepares the audience for a fright and this instantly tells the audience its a horor film. However, as we have decided to subvert away from that and create a more urban horror trailer we have used a rock soundtrack with lyrics that inspire violence and mayhem, which are conventions of horror but I dont think this may be as successful if we were to use this instead of something more fitting to the horror genre.

Our trailer will be using todorovs narrative theory of equilibrium. Equilibrium -> Disruption -> Recognition -> Action -> New Equilibrium

Film Trailer

My group decided to challenge to conventions of traditional horror and subvert to a more urban environment. Films such as Heartless have done this and I believe it can work successfully in creating a good horror movie. We had quite a few ideas of watch we would base the trailer on, how we would film it and what we would use in our trailer.

At first we had the idea to make the film about a normal school boy who had to deal with being bullied in school constantly because of his dress sense wasnt approved of. Fed up, he decides to purchase a piece of jewellry that happens to contain an evil power he doesnt understand. Eventually if possess his mind and body and kills his bullies. This plan never got pastd discussion as after much deliberation we decided it was quite a poor idea and from there we came up with a much better idea and we have stuck with it.

Inital Storyboard and Plot

This was a rough idea as to how our trailer would look and displaying the various shots we would use and the location. However as we changed our plot, the storyboard is very different to what we have planned now but not everything may be necessarily changed as we plan to use most of the shots that were primarily intended.

In the first box we had the father laying down seemingly asleep as a mid shot then as the camera would slowly zoom into a close up he would then open his eyes. The second box is the father talking to his son which would be a two shot to display both characters emotions through body language and then a close up to show the sons facial expressions.

The third box was to have the son walk up the stairs at a low angle shot where his father would watch him while the son did not notice, creating a sinister atmosphere. The son then tells his friends to come round to his house for a big party which was intended to be an over the shoulder shot and finally the son notices something strange which is daed body as he walks home from school as a long shot.

This trailer was based loosely on the film my super psycho sweet 16 which is a sadistic horror movie and the plot is about a teen who wants a super sweet 16 party at a popular venue, however things get out of hand as violence begins to escalate and teens are being murdered.

However this story idea has been abandonned and we have decided to go for something different

Daddy Hell Care

The name of film is Daddy Hell Care.This is a pun of the Eddie Murphy comedy Daddy Day Care.

Straight away the title of the film suggests to the audience that this film is indeed a horror and may contain images of evil, murder and bloodshed. One of the reasons we named this Daddy Hell Care is that the main character is a father who was bullied as a child and was left scarred because of it and evntually something snapped and has now gone completely insane and meting out justice as he sees fit.

We have done a few storyboards to give us a vague idea of what our trailer might look like but these ideas could change along the filming process. Our first storyboard looks like this and is an exmaple of what will be happening in our trailer, keeping in mind this like a draft and ideas may change.

I chose to use this trailer due to me being familiar with the film therefore taking into consideration any shots or effects I could use in my own horror trailer.
